My Shirt

My shirt has butterflies on it. It is really special because my cousin gave it to me and it has symmetry. I know it has symmetry because the one side is the same as the other side.  The colours and shapes are the same. If you fold it along the body and flip one side onto the other it will match. The body is like a line of symmetry. Even the antennas have symmetry.

What colour cubes are in the bags?

Can you guess what colour cubes are in the bags?

We will have five chances to pick a bag and look inside. After each guess we will move the bags and change their order.

Here are the cubes that we started with:

What colour cubes are likely in the bags? Why do you think that?

Is it possible that there is more than one green cube? Why or why not?

Can you be certain about the colour of cubes that are in the bags? Why or why not?

Jump Rope for Heart

Today we were skipping for 100 minutes to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  We went to seven different stations.  It was awesome because we got to have Gatorade and it was fun because we got to skip. We got to learn different tricks with the skipping ropes. The best part was that we got to keep the skipping ropes.

Plasticine Art

Today Mrs. Sickinger showed up how to make plasticine art.  We learned about Barbara Reid.

We made things from our trip to the Wye Marsh. I made a tree.  It was hard because you have to use your pencil to do the leaves. Mrs. Sickinger showed me how.

QR Codes

We wondered what a QR code is.  We learned that a QR code is like a picture or symbol that you can scan (with an app) and then it takes you right to a website.

This is a way to share information quickly and you don’t have to type on a long website address.

We used QR codes to share our class blog.  If you want to learn more about how to use QR codes, read the poster below.

We also used QR codes to create a link to our portfolio pages.  We pasted them to our diagrams as an easy way to find our writing.

Have you ever used a QR code to share information? How did you use them?

Welcome Families!

Welcome to our Open House Night Grade 2 Families!

Tonight our learning goal is to tell and show our families how we use technology to learn in our classroom.

Success Criteria:

– I have shared how we use technology in reader’s workshop, writer’s workshop and math by showing my family how we use:

  • the smart board
  • the document camera
  • our blog
  • computers
  • the iPod touch
  • the school Livescribe pens
  • Bitstrips
  • QR codes

We have been working very hard in writer’s workshop on writing a report.  We have just published our first reports on our individual portfolio pages. To find our individual portfolios you can click on the portfolio tab at the top of the blog

OR scan our QR code with the iPod touch or your smart phone (you will need a QR code reader like “ScanLife”).

Before you leave, please use the computers in the classroom to give us descriptive feedback by commenting on this post. (You can ask us how to do this!)

What did you like?

How do you use technology as a tool to help you learn?

Did you learn something new?

What do you think about how we are engaging in our learning?
