SDL History Project

history project 4

For my SDL History project, i decided to work by myself becuase i thought it would be a good challenge for me. For my project I covered the topics, Hudson’s Bay company sells Ruperts Land to Canada, Louis Reil leads the Red River Resistance, Manitoba enters Confederation, North- west mounted police is formed and Canada makes 11 treaties with Aboriginal people in the west. I was trying to decide how to show  my work and i figured out that i wanted to make a scrapbook, I took tea bags to colour the paper to make it look old. I really enjoyed trying SDL in our class room.

Earth Day is every day!

What can we do to step more lightly on our earth?

This was the question that we ask every student in our school.

Each student traced their foot on recycled paper and then added a pledge about what they could do to lighten their footprint on the earth. The footprints are posted in the hallway by the gym to remind us that together we can make a difference. Earth Day can be every day of the year.

CUSTODIAN WEEK!!

This week is custodian week. Custodians do so much. They make sure our school is spik and span! If you see our custodians Mr. Mills or Mr. Vivian, make sure to thank them, and appreciate everything they do for us! Thank you ever so much, for your dedication, and caring towards our school. We love you!

The amazing boxer Mary Spencer!

8 Time Canadian Champion, 3 Time World Champion, 1 Time World Bronze Medalist, 5 Time Pan-American Champion Mary Spencer came to our class today and talked to us about how she fulfilled her dream to become a boxer. She shared her story and inspire us by following our dream and always try your best. She was following her dream by going to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Mary Spencer is truly a role model and an inspiration for the commitment that she has to boxing and reaching her goals. You can read what others in the class thought by clicking on their blogs (Student Blogs in the right column).

We just want to thank Mary Spencer for coming to our class and inspiring us to follow our dream no matter what. We can do it. We are cheering for her in the next Olympics!

Talking stress with Mr. Sawyer

Today Mr. Sawyer came to our school and talked to the grades 8 students about stress. Stress becomes a problem when we are not sure how to handle life events or situations. When we worry and we feel “stressed.” We talked about how we might become stressed, for example some people get stressed at school or work because they have a deadline to meet and they are worried that they may not finish it. Or maybe you are having trouble with family or finances, anything that you are finding difficult to handle mentally or physically.  We also talk about the different ways how you can help with your stress, like writing in a journal or reading may relax you. Sometime you can participate in a sport activity or relax doing yoga. When dealing with stress it really helps doing something that you enjoy and will take your mind off whatever is getting you stressed.

We would like to thank Mr. Sawyer for coming to our school and teaching us about stress and how to handle it.
