Cyberbullying

Today, the OPP came to our school as part of the Safety Village and we learned about Cyberbullying.

They talked about all things to do with CYBERBULLYING, such as what it is, how to prevent it and sexting, which is a term used by the safety village folk. Sexting is the act of sending controversial photos to another person, which is an act of child pornography. Sometimes the photos get spread around, and is extremely embarrassing and devastating through harassment and teasing.

Movie: The Bully

Today we discussed 5 inspirational stories about victims of bullying. Next week we are attending the movie “The Bully” and it is based on these 5 stories. The paragraphs that we read about each family were emotional and really eye opening. Hearing about each story made us want to stand up and not let people hurt others or themselves. We answered questions about each group and we used livescribe pens to record our thinking about each family. There stories made us think about how everyone is different in their own way. They may be “not cool” or have special needs but that shouldn’t change how people treat them. Everyone is special in their own way. It is what makes them unique and makes them who they are. No one should be judged for being themselves. When people make fun of people because they have special needs it makes me upset (Hannah). I have a friend with special needs and if you take the time to get to know him you would find out how funny and awesome he is. (Emilee) I had a similar experience at camp when I got to know a girl with special needs. She was very reserved but when I got to know her she opened up and felt comfortable to talk to me.

Setting Goals for Success

Today we learned about setting goals and how best to achieving them. We learned about a certain man called Chris Hadfield. when he was young he had a dream of being an astronaut (because… who doesn’t?). He knew his chances were very slim and there weren’t exactly astronaut positions opening in NASA. So he decided to work his way up the metaphorical food chain, joining the army and air force, and eventually was granted the job. Chris had a goal and he never strayed far from it, this story just tells you that if you put your mind to something and work like its you last day on Earth then you can get anything done. You can celebrate the accomplishments you make each day.

Now we are making/setting goals for our future on a website called my Blueprint.

Have a good day and remember, what are your goals for the future?

The Blogging Challange

For ten weeks our class is taking on the blogging challange. We are going to write ten blog posts on our own student blogs for ten weeks to challange ourselves to become better bloggers. This week is the first week of the blogging challange and we had to write to ten insperational or important people, dead or alive, and write one or more questions that we wanted to ask them. Some students chose to write to late family members or people they look up to and some chose to write to  famous people. Something i think that is cool about this is that teachers, students , and other people can look at our posts and comment on them so you can get feedback and think deeper about what you are writing. I think this is going to be a great experence for our class and we all are going to become awesome bloggers.

happy blogging!
